The Mercer Museum & Fonthill Castle and the ActorsNET of Bucks County present a special modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”
Set in the roaring 20s, ActorsNET’s take on Shakespeare’s most enduring romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, sees Don Pedro’s army returning from the bittersweet victory of WWI to the ladies, conflicts, and mini dramas they left behind. Though the central plot revolves around the young war hero Claudio falling for the Governor’s daughter, Hero, it’s the witty war of words between Claudio’s friend Benedick and Hero’s cousin Beatrice that take center stage as they feign dislike for each other and champion the young lovers’ cause. When a dastardly plot by Don John threatens the young lovers’ happiness, Beatrice leaps into action and shows just how crafty she can be and she conspires to teach the boys a lesson they so richly deserve. Hijinks ensue, deceptions unravel, and true feelings are revealed, and as this classic romcom resolves, will the soldiers march toward their happily ever after, or will the women turn their backs on their tomfoolery once and for all?
This special production by the most famous playwright in the English language is staged in the spectacular outdoor setting of Fonthill Castle.
